The new film I have been working on, "Alleyway of Dreams," combines my interests in inner-city alleys, street art, AI digital art and narrative film storytelling. Each frame of the film is derived from a piece of algorithmic AI digital art I made from original photographs of alleys and street art. Essentially one long image-to-image cross-fade from beginning to end, the film builds an artificial world over which a narrative overlay is added to explore themes of friendship, loss, memory and destiny.
My artistic practice involves blending various forms of media, and this multimedia, transformative exploration fits well within that framework. Using an AI machine learning based algorithm to transform original photographs gave an interesting look to each image, yet also had the effect of making the collection of images have a similar stylistic and 'temperature' look and feel that lent itself well to blending the images into a moving story. "Alleyway of Dreams" is currently being submitted to festivals around the world, and I look forward to seeing how it is received. It certainly was a fun project to work on, and I hope to do more projects along similar lines in the future. #filmmaking #digitalart #AIart #experimental film |
